Machining Technician

The Machining Technician sets up and operates various machines requiring a higher level of understanding. Some pieces of equipment may be computer numerically controlled (CNC). Equipment may include, but is not limited to: manual lathes, milling and drilling machine machining centers, CNC lathes.

    Read blueprints or process sheets for specification such as dimensions and tolerances, tooling instructions and so on.
    Select proper equipment, including tooling, fixtures and accessories, to complete the task.
    Adjust machine settings to provide the best quality part with the greatest efficiency.
    Utilize measuring tools to verify product quality.
    May operate CNC machines that have been previously programmed.
    Support 5S/workplace organization goals of the department and offer suggestions and make improvements that achieve the department's performance board metrics.
Other Required Skills and Abilities:
    Write routine reports and intra-department communications.
    Calculate figures and apply concepts of fractions, percentages and ratios.
    Apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry and statistical quality control.
    Perform basic Microsoft Office skills, CAD and other software.
    Perform problem solving techniques and root cause analysis.
    Perform multiple tasks simultaneously; ability to assess, evaluate, and carry out appropriate action for a given situation.

    College education, engineering specialties or related educational background
    At least 5 years related experience and/or training.
